The situation is that you have got a private registration plate, and you want to attach it to your leased vehicle. The question is: HOW?
There should not be any trouble in attaching a private registration number plate to a leased car providing the fact that you have got the permission of the funder. The finance giver is the registered owner as well as the keeper of the car as in the matter of most of the lease contractors, you have to arrange this directly with the respected authority.
If the present lease car is with the Nationwide Vehicle Contracts, you have to be aware that the private registration plate may not be arranged for adding it to your car before the delivery because the delivery process can be delayed. Hence, it is suggested to arrange it directly with the finance agency after receiving the vehicle’s delivery.
What will you do if you have received the delivery of your vehicle?
Begin by the arrangement of the finance provider who is to be named as a Nominee on V750 (Certificate of Entitlement). You can always add or change the Nominee on the Certificate by post or online. You will get further details regarding the way to do it on the reverse of the V750. Go to Section C and follow the instructions.
If you are prepared to proceed, you have to deliver the following documents through the post. You have to add a short covering letter. Send it directly to the finance provider. The documents are:
- V750 or the Certificate of Entitlement (bearing the finance company that is named as the Grantee or Nominee).
- The administration fee (It differs from funder to funder. It is generally approximately £35 plus VAT)
Once the finance giver receives the documentation, you will be given a letter of acknowledgement which confirms the receipt. You will be contacted by the finance agency at this particular stage for the arrangement of the administration fee’s payment. Then, the documents will be sent to the DVLA for processing the transfer.
Once the registration number has been assigned by the DVLA to the specific vehicle, and the right documentation has been sent back, you will be forwarded the documents by the Special Delivery for enabling the updating of the vehicle number plates. You are not supposed to show the personalized registration number on the vehicle until you have got confirmation from the DVLA and the funder.
If the lease contract is due to end, how would you remove your private registration plate from your lease vehicle?
You have to arrange for the private registration number plate at least 6 weeks before your lease contract ends. It’s best if you do the arrangement directly with the finance provider because Nationwide Vehicle Contracts is not able to do the needful on your behalf.
Send these documents via post attached with a covering letter directly to the finance giver:
- A cheque of £105 which is made redeemable to the DVLA
- A covering letter that confirms the details of the nominee (It can be normally the new vehicle keeper on order. In case, the keeper is unknown, then you have to provide the details of the plate owner.)
- The administration fee which varies based on different funders and is approximately £35 plus VAT
After the receival of the document, you will get a letter of acknowledgement that gives the confirmation of the receipt. If any document is missing, a letter will be given containing the request of the further documentation with a pre-paid envelope, and ratification of the time period of completion. Again, you will be contacted by the finance agency for the payment’s arrangement related to the administration fee.
Again, upon the registration number is assigned by the DVLA to the specific vehicle, and the correct documentation is being sent back, you will be forwarded the documents by the Special Delivery for enabling the number plates to be brought up to date. Now, if the motorized vehicle is at the contract’s end, the number plate should be transferred before the arrangement of the collection.
Usually, the DVLA send the retention certificate around a couple of weeks after the completion of the transfer. It will be delivered to you separately.
The time period for transferring the private number plate:
The DVLA need approximately six weeks for completing the transfer of the private number plate.
Always remember that it is solely your responsibility to pay and make sure that the concerned number plates are changed for reflecting the registration change.
